I have been passionate about the north since the early 1980s. But it wasn't until 1988 that I began to explore my passion in depth. I flew to Churchill on Hudson Bay in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The incredible diversity of nature and the friendliness of the people there soon turned me and my wife Elli into "Churchillians". Polar bears, beluga whales, bird migration, snowstorms and snowdrifts, auroras and herds of caribou, ptarmigans and arctic foxes. Everything was there. Right in front of me. It was all just a question of when and how I could photograph them. This became my life project: In the realm of polar bears. Since then, I have travelled to the Canadian north, Spitsbergen and Greenland. And - the love has not yet been extinguished!
